How do you get the most efficient result when it comes to reducing costs? You need to focus on the end user, client or customer, to determine what they value. Focus on that. Then reduce anything non-value added from processes, materials etc.
The end user is obviously important in the process of improving the process, however, who else is important to consider?
Enterprise organisation stakeholders
In the order of priority, the following stakeholders need to be considered when improving a process:
- Customers or end users
- Employees
- Union, society
- Corporate leadership
- Shareholders
- Partners
- Suppliers
A Lean Enterprise occurs when everyone works efficiently together from business acquisition and program management, requirements and definitions, product or process development, supply chain management, production and distribution, and support.
How do you get started?
- Map the process
- Determine capacity and customer/patient demand
- Learn to identify waste
- Work to demand, eliminate disruptions and abnormalities
- Improve flow, shorten lead time
- Aggressively eliminate remaining waste
What enablers do you need when improving a process?
If it is a process unique to one department or team, you may not need any additional resources other than key members of the team, however often a process will require cross-collaboration of different departments. When you are considering a process change, ask yourself whether you require any assistance from the following areas:- Finance
- Information technology (IT)
- Human Resources (HR)
- Quality Assurance
- Facilities and services
- Environment, Health, and Safety
What tools can be useful?
